Dr. Robert Lowry for Congress - Family Photo

Dr. Lowry first moved to Texas in 1980 when he and his cousin packed their clothes and a stereo and drove to Houston to try and get jobs working on the drilling rigs. Two weeks later they were both working as roughnecks. After a year, he left the drilling rigs to enter college where he also met his wife, Lynnell; both obtaining their Bachelor’s Degrees in Biological Sciences at UC, Irvine. They were married in June of 1987 while both were then graduate students studying Neurophysiology. From there, both were accepted into Medical School at George Washington University in Washington, DC., after which, they both then came to UTHSCSA for Residency training. Their three children were all born at the University Hospital here in San Antonio, and all three presently attend The Geneva School of Boerne – a Classical Christian based school.

The Lowrys have been working in Bexar County since their arrival here in 1993.

Work prior to becoming a Physician

Dr. Lowry was born near Los Angeles and his grandfather and father owned and operated a small welding and sheet metal business in South-Central Los Angeles. There, Dr. Lowry would spend most of his summers working in the shop and learning the many aspects of the family business (machine design, welding and metal fabrication, customer service as well as cleaning the floors). At 19 he and his cousin moved to Houston to seek out work on the drilling rigs. There he found work as a roughneck for a geotechnical engineering firm. He later returned to college, running track, and playing soccer for the school. During college, Dr. Lowry worked various jobs from being a gas station attendant (if anyone remembers what that used to be) to working as a bouncer, to co-founding and running a lighting sales & installation business with a college friend.

The Lowry family attends the University United Methodist Church. Both Drs. Lowry regularly attend and occsionally teach the Core Class adult Bible study class at UUMC Dr. Lynnell Lowry is presently in a Master’s Degree program (Biblical Studies) through the Dallas Theological Seminary; the classes being held at Community Bible Church in San Antonio.
